Variety has high fertilizer needs, but also high potential yields with a high percentage of large tubers and US #1 tubers. Tubers can be processed right at harvest, but it is primarily a fresh market variety.

It is primarily a fresh market potato with good boiling and baking qualities. It is widely adapted to the western U.S. and performs especially well in the SLV. Selections were made at Texas A & M in the early 1990's. Five selections survived grower trials. The Texas selections were first selected in a field with very high early dying / verticilium pressure. Then they were further selected for heat resistance, vigor and tuber type. It has late maturity, high sets, and low yields. Its specific gravity is medium. It has resistances to common scab, potato leaf roll, PVY, PVX.

Caesar

It has good resistance to drought, secondary growth, black spot bruise, shatter bruise, leafroll virus, and early blight. It is susceptible to common scab.

It is considered excellent for baking and boiling and ranks high in taste tests. It has a relatively high level of Vitamin C (20.0mg/l00gm fresh weight basis). This cultivar is slow emerging with a medium vine and lavender flower. Sangre has a determinate growth habit and a moderate to shallow, concentrated root system. Tubers are white fleshed, oval and smooth with a deep red skin color; eyes are shallow and well distributed; low specific gravity (1.077).
